RE-LDN Workshop: Launch of the Regional Engagement for Land Degradation Neutrality

Approximately 30 UNCCD-accredited civil society organizations in Türkiye are coming together in Ankara in line with Target 15.3 of the Sustainable Development Goals, “Land Degradation Neutrality.” The process titled “Regional Engagement for Land Degradation Neutrality (RE-LDN)” is being launched as an important initiative aimed at strengthening the role of civil society in combating desertification, land degradation, and drought in Türkiye.

The RE-LDN Project aims to enhance multi-stakeholder cooperation in climate and land governance in response to increasing pressures on ecosystems, agricultural production, water resources, and rural livelihoods. In this context, the active participation of UNCCD-accredited civil society organizations will be supported to strengthen both policy development processes and field-level implementation.

The project has been designed taking into account the experience of UNCCD COP12 held in Ankara in 2015, as well as the upcoming UNFCCC COP31 scheduled for November 2026 in Antalya. Within this framework, it seeks to develop a shared civil society vision in the areas of climate change adaptation, land degradation neutrality, and sustainable land management.

Through this workshop process, it is planned to increase the visibility of best practices in preventing land degradation, strengthen joint preparations for COP31, and organize a civil society-led side event at the international level. The COP31 preparatory workshop will be held in Ankara on 25–26 July 2026, and based on its outcomes, the RE-LDN side event and COP31 participation activities will take place in Antalya on 11–13 November 2026.

This workshop invites all relevant stakeholders to contribute to the development of joint solutions in the fields of land degradation, climate change, and sustainable land management, to enhance knowledge sharing, and to strengthen multi-actor cooperation.
